Baptism is the powerful connection of water with God’s Word that blesses us with God’s grace and forgiveness. When we are baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit we receive a new identity, becoming children of God.

First Communion

Each year, Gloria Dei hosts a “First Communion” class for our 6th-8th graders who are ready to grow in their understanding of Holy Communion and to partake of the Lord’s Supper. This class is part of their Confirmation experience that begins in 7th grade. All students in 6th-8th grade are required to attend this weekend class in order to complete their Confirmation experience at Gloria Dei. The date of the class varies based on yearly schedule. If your 6th-8th grader has not taken “First Communion” and you would like them to participate in this event, contact Audrey below to receive future updates.

Confirmation

Confirmation at Gloria is a two year process beginning in the 7th grade in which our goal is to further develop and support the spiritual foundation that you have already established with your child(ren) as they have been growing in their faith. Confirmation is a re-affirmation of what took place in their Baptism, as the student begins to take on the responsibility for their own faith development and growth. The two-year process involves biblical insights for everyday living, the teaching of the Christian faith, and the exploration of new and deeper ways to grow in their faith and service to their Savior. We use a 2-year cycle (Year A: Old and New Testament – Year B: The Catechism and Lutheran Doctrine). Classes begin every September and run through the school year on Sunday mornings at 9:45am. Your wedding service will be a worshipful celebration of unity that emphasizes Christian marriage, officiated by one of our Gloria Dei Pastors, in consultation with you. Our pastors are honored to guide and support you in this joyful and faith-filled journey. Pre-marital counseling by one of our pastors is a requirement prior to marriage.
